Shanaye will be entering year 9 at La Salle College in Middle Swan in 2018. This bright young lady is in the care of foster parents and has been since she was 4 years old. When asked about her most significant challenge it was having to change homes so often and make the adjustments needed to her new home, new carers, new rules. This is quite a challenge for someone so young. For the past 9 years, she has been with her current carers and this has allowed her greater security. Shanaye hopes that her receiving a YAL scholarship that she can be a role model for more foster children to reach for the stars.
Shanaye’s goal is to be a biomedical engineer and she has a clear path in how to make this goal a reality. Maintaining good grades is a part of that, which she is already showing the capabilities of achieving. She has many things that she is proud of achieving but her grades and her sporting triumphs rank highly in her list.
Shanaye feels she would be a great advocate for the YAL program, as she is a good public speaker and even competed in the City of Swan Youth Out Loud competition in 2016 where she wrote a speech on her life as a foster child.
