Congratulations Abby Hennighan – Lower Secondary Scholarship Recipient 2016

Abby is a passionate 12-year-old young lady who is determined to build a bright future for herself. She lives with her family in Geraldton WA and has been accepted to John Curtin College of the Arts in 2017 where she will enter Year 7. Abby will board at City Beach Residential College in order to attend school in Perth.

Abby is a caring young lady who has dreams of becoming a sports reporter. Abby applied for a YAL scholarship as her concern the move to Perth would stretch the already tight family budget too far and the financial stress that would have on her family.

When Abby’s family moved to Geraldton from the small rural town of Morawa Abby had to work hard to build her confidence in both school work and interaction with her peers. Even though Abby found this challenging, with time and hard work she achieved the goals she set for herself.

Abby believes in giving back to her community. She volunteers once a week at the Geraldton Mission to Seafarers, a role she will be sad to leave when she moves to Perth in February to start school.

“This Lower Secondary Scholarship from the JJ “Boss” Simons Charitable Endowment Trust will assist my family and myself a lot. Being away from home involves extra costs. Financial assistance will help as I will be boarding at City Beach Residential College.

A YAL scholarship will assist towards the cost of my education in the area I want to specialize in which is Media Arts at John Curtin College of the Arts. I would like to say thank you to everyone involved with this scholarship and I will be very happy to assist in any way.”
