Congratulations Evie O’Farrell – YAL & Dome Kelmscott & Armadale Lower Secondary Scholarship 2017
Evie will be entering year 9 at Kelmscott Senior High School in 2018, where she is part of two special programs in athletics and music. Bright and determined to succeed, she excels at both school and on the running track.
Evie feels her family is under increased financial pressure to due to the low income her mother earns as an education assistant of students with special needs at a local primary school. Evie is extremely proud of the job that her mother does, but feels her salary does not reflect the good that she achieves in difficult circumstances. As a single parent Evie’s mum does the best she can to give her daughters everything they need. The specialist programs that Evie is in at school increase this burden on the family finances and it is help with this that Evie believes would make the biggest difference in her life.
Evie broke her left leg at age 2 and having to learn to walk and run properly after it healed has taken many years. Working hard to gain flexibility in her once ridged ankle has taken time so that now she is able to run middle and long distances with ease.
Evie sees that she could advocate well for the YAL scholarship program with a positive social media presence, speaking to her peers and encouraging others to reach for their goals no matter what obstacles they have to overcome.
