Can someone other than the potential recipient apply for a scholarship on behalf of the young person?

No. YAL wants to hear from the young person themselves. This is not an English assignment.

We want to get to know you and hear your story in your own words, it’s not a test, be yourself and let us get to know what you are passionate about and how receiving a scholarship will impact/improve your life.

Can I defer my scholarship if I defer my study? 

Yes. Please see our Terms and Conditions regarding deferring.

What is considered Rural or Remote to apply for the YAL Members scholarship?

What can I use the scholarship funds for?

Anything to support your educational needs. This includes but is not lmited to:

  • Tuition Fees 
  • Specialist Clothing 
  • Books 
  • Specialist course fees 
  • Equipment            
  • Living expenses 
  • Tutoring 
  • Computer software/hardware
  • Travel 
  • Learning Experiences

When will I know if I have received a scholarship?

Notification of the outcome of your application will be expected by early December 2022.

What happens if I do not keep up with my obligations once I’ve been awarded a scholarship?

If I’ve left high school early to pursue alternative education (e.g. TAFE/Training) which scholarship do I apply for?

You would apply for an Upper Secondary Scholarship. 

Can I apply for an area specific scholarship if I attend school in the area but don’t live in the area?

Yes. See requirements for each scholarship.

Why do I need to include my social media profiles?

Please see the Media and Promotions section in our Terms and Conditions, as a general rule your social media will only be considered if you are short listed for an interview. 

Can I apply for more the one (1) scholarship?

Only nominate one (1) schoarlship however, the selection pannel reserve the right to consider you for anoher category if you are eligible. 

Who selects the successful applications?

A selection panel will review all applicants according to the criteria set out in the Application Form. The selection panel consists of representatives from various education sectors. After considering all applications, the selection panel will make recommendations to the Board of Directors. The Selection panel may invite a number of applicants for an interview before making its final recommendations. This will occur in the first week of October via MS Teams. YAL staff will assist with the arrangements for those short listed.

Feedback on individual applications will NOT be provided. The selection process is confidential. No information provided by the applicants will be released to third parties without the informed consent of the individual applicant.
